What parents need to know now about the new Social Host Laws

Charges dropped against Mississippi attorney

All social host charges against Caledonia, Mississippi attorney Steve Wallace were dropped today, according to an Associated Press article in a local Mississippi paper. His son, Steven “Colt” Wallace, Jr., 18, was fined $1,410 and received two months’ probation after he pleaded guilty to one count each of selling alcohol without a permit, possession of beer and possession of liquor with intent to sell without a permit.

The Wallaces were charged for an April 1 high school party hosted by the younger Wallace during which minors paid to enter and received alcohol once inside. Mississippi’s state-wide Social Host Law, which prohibits adults from knowingly permitting minors to drink alcohol on their property, went into effect in 2011.
